Ronni K.: On Family, Embracing Aging, and Living Fully | 50 Over 50 portrait campaign, Houston, TX (Vol. 3)

Welcome to Ronni K.’s story as part of the 50 Over 50 Portrait Experience! I am photographing 50 women over the age of 50, sharing their stories, providing them with gorgeous, heirloom portrait art for their legacy, and celebrating them with an in-person gala exhibition when the project is complete. For all the details, visit www.amandafaucettportraits.com/50.

Ronni has trusted me with her family portraits for years. So when she saw the 50 Over 50 Experience, she already knew the photos would be beautiful.

What surprised her?

“It was more fun than I expected.”

From professional hair and makeup to stepping just slightly outside her comfort zone with a few boudoir-inspired images, Ronnie fully embraced the experience.

“Honestly, I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all,” she shared. “It’s really just about stepping outside of your comfort zone a little.”

When I asked what she would say to another woman considering the experience, her answer was simple:

“It’s worth it.”

Here’s Ronni’s story, in her own words, with some of her gorgeous images. All details and answers shared with permission. (All photos by Amanda Faucett Photography.)

What are some of the most significant lessons you've learned since turning 50?

I have learned that I cannot physically do all the things I used to be able to do when I was 30. I stay active, but I have to be careful not to overdo activities and to make sure that I give myself time to heal if I injure myself. I have also tried to embrace the aging process instead of fighting it.

How has your perspective on life changed as you've gotten older?

I have learned not to be the best at every aspect of my life, but to focus on the most important aspects, such as being present in my two kids’ lives and spending quality time with my husband.

What is one thing you wish more people understood about women over 50?

That women over 50 are wise but still young at heart.

What accomplishments are you most proud of at this stage in your life?

My greatest accomplishment is that my husband and I have raised two wonderful boys who we hope will continue to grow and lead independent and fulfilling lives.

What are your hopes or dreams for the years ahead?

I would like to retire in the next few years. I am very thankful that I have had a successful career and am in a good financial situation to enjoy retirement. I hope my kids find success and happiness after they complete their education, and I hope to age gracefully with my husband for many years to come.

What is something you once feared about aging that you now embrace?

I thought I would fear menopause, but now I find that it is great. I do use HRT to reduce symptoms, but not having a period anymore is very freeing.

How do you continue to learn or challenge yourself?

I like to read. I select different types of books to broaden my knowledge. Sometimes I pick classic novels I have never read, sometimes I choose self help, sometimes it is a biography, and sometimes it’s books just for fun.

Watch Ronni share, in her own words, why she chose to celebrate this season of life with a 50 Over 50 portrait session and what the experience was like for her.

Ronni describes her experience with Amanda Faucett Photography’s 50 over 50 Portrait campaign, including why she chose to do her shoot now, her favorite part of the experience, and what she would say to a woman who’s considering doing her own 50 Over 50 shoot. Enjoy!

Thank you, Ronni, for participating in the 50 Over 50 Portrait Campaign!
